Meskalin

Substance

Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) is a spineless, spherical cactus. It mainly grows in the North Mexican deserts. It is a very slow-growing plant. The interval between seed germination and the first bloom is approximately 13 years. When fully grown, it reaches a diameter of approximately 15 cm. The entire cactus contains approximately 30 alkaloids, of which Mescaline, a powerfully psychedelic alkaloid, is the main ingredient.
Mescaline belongs to the methoxyamphetamine class of chemicals. Effective mescaline doses are in the approximate range of 200-600 mg.

Peyote cactus is eaten in both the fresh and dried state (on an empty stomach) or sometimes boiled up with hot water into a tea. It has an extremely bitter taste. More rarely, it is smoked - the effect is then much less powerful and will irritate the throat very badly. Medicinal use of Peyote among the natives of Mexico is largely declining. It was used, for example, to treat headaches, earache, bronchitis, in midwifery and to treat wounds.

Effects

The Mescaline high is comparable with that of LSD. The hallucinogenic effect will set in 1-1.5 hours after administration and will last up to 12 hours.

All the senses are affected: sight and hearing very severely so. In particular, colours are perceived much more intensively, and sense of time and space are significantly altered. Low doses of mescaline may have a slight aphrodisiac effect. Users report euphoria resembling a religious experience in its depth, a sense of being involved in a visionary experience, and a change in perception of the self.

Short-term side effects

The bitter taste most often results in nausea and sometimes vomiting. Other possible side effects are: increased pulse rate and blood pressure, increased flow of saliva, dilated pupils, increased body temperature, suppression of hunger during the effective period, often followed by ravenous craving for sweet things.

Long-term side effects

Side effects that occur with regular use over a fairly long period have not yet been identified, though this does not mean that there are none.
Latent, undiagnosed (often unknown) psychoses may also be triggered by use of this drug.

Interaction with other drugs

If Peyote is taken together with cannabis products, the effect of the cannabis is intensified.

Safer use

Peyote should not be used alone, but in company. Due to toxic phenomena such as nausea and vomiting, there is a danger of users choking on their own vomit!

Furthermore, the trip depends a great deal on the appropriate mood and psychological maturity of the user (set) and his or her surroundings (setting).
As with LSD, horror trips and panic attacks may also occur. For this reason, never use the drug if you feel in any way uneasy about it or if you have a fear of it.

Peyote should not be taken on a full stomach nor together with other drugs, as the effect of interaction cannot be calculated.

People with (latent) psychoses should not use mescaline.

As with all psychoactive substances, its use should be infrequent and should not become a habit. It is therefore important to take breaks between use of between 4 and 6 weeks in order to allow your mind and body to get over the trip.

Mescaline, as a pure or enriched substance, is illegal and, according to the Annex of the BtmG (Dangerous Drugs Act), not to be prescribed or sold. The living cactus, by contrast, is not prohibited, although dried and prepared parts of the plant are also prohibited (as they are ingredients used in the manufacture of a narcotic or in the manufacture of intermediate products).
